I spent 12 months in an executive speaking mastermind led by Bo Eason.
Bo is a former NFL player, one-man show writer/performer, and one of the best public speakers on stage today. If you’ve seen him speak, you know what I’m talking about.
The first day of the program, I’m standing next to financial planners, inventors, and tech entrepreneurs.
I thought, “Maybe this is a mistake. Maybe I don’t belong here. I bet they have stories. I don’t have stories.”
I was wrong. I found a story worth sharing. Then multiple stories.
Learning how to tell my personal story didn’t just change how I talk. It changed my DNA.
I went from the SEO guy who hid behind his expertise and SEO results to giving live talks and getting on podcasts.
And I liked it, even if I feel a little pukey before each event.
That was then. This is now
When I had the chance to learn how to do what Bo did for me for my clients earlier this year, I jumped at the chance.
I’m happy to say that I’m now a Bo Eason Personal Story Power Certified Coach.
I’m in the personal storytelling coaching business now, and I’m looking for some brave souls who are interested in stepping into telling their personal story with one-on-one storytelling training with me as your coach.
Why learn to tell your story
Most people are terrified to talk in front of others about just about anything, never mind share their own personal story.
In my case, I was the SEO guy who didn’t want to be found. I hid behind my expertise and SEO results. I didn’t want to be found so I made it my job to get other people found. The irony.
Our feelings are the cost of entry for being in the storytelling game.
Here’s the good news. For those of us who are willing to play that game, we get chosen simply for playing.
That’s right. For simply getting on a stage or on a podcast to tell our personal story, people see us as trustworthy, courageous, and relatable.
More importantly, they see themselves in the personal stories we share. That makes them choose us way before we even ask them to.
I think that’s worth feeling a little pukey over if you ask me.
Who benefits from learning to tell their story?
Here is a short list of those who benefit from telling their personal story:
- Entrepreneurs who feel stagnant in businesses they created
- C-level executives looking to lead by example
- Salespeople looking to differentiate themselves
- Non-profit founders raising funds
- And individuals who have been hiding what they want to bring forward for far too long
Remember the story of David and Goliath? Has anyone ever chosen Goliath?
No. Never. Not once.
They always choose David. That is what a story does.
It can do that for you, too.
