Unless you got yourself a TARDIS or some other fancy time-travel machine this past Christmas, you have a limited amount of time to get your sh*t done.
So, how do you decide how to use your time well?
Here is some free unsolicited advice (worth every penny, which they don’t make anymore).
After you do something that you would normally do (operative word = normally) ask, “Was that important?” Then ask why.
Write it down. Don’t ponder it and move on. WRITE IT DOWN (yelling, but just a little). Use pen and paper. The old-fashioned way.
Alternatively, before doing anything you would NOT normally do (operative phrase = NOT normally) ask yourself, “Is this important?” Then ask why.
Again, write it down. Don’t just ponder. WRITE IT DOWN (yelling again, a little more).
Try this on for a practical exercise: The next email or text you get from Jack/Jill, ask yourself.
– Is this really for me to do?
– Is this how I want to spend my time?
– Is this a distraction?
– Is this something that is going to contribute to me being me?
– Is this something I will care about in a month?
– AKA, is this IMPORTANT?
Write it down.
Do this for a week. Review your notes at the end of the week. See what you learned about how you use your time and the requests made of you.
Don’t piss away your time on unimportant things that beg for your attention. Let them beg.
Focus on what you want to create for yourself this year.
Happy 2026!
